Towards an Efficient Freight Future analyses what action is being taken, and what action should be taken, to deal with a selection of concerns raised in a 2008 report by the ALC.
Concerns focus on blockages in the supply chain, and the extent to which those blockages have been given consideration by Infrastructure Australia in their reports to government.
Included in the report are detailed steps being taken towards protecting access corridors to ports and terminals, improving access for higher productivity vehicles, and identifying appropriate sites for intermodal terminals in urban areas.
"[The report] finds that while there has been some progress in addressing Australia's most pressing supply chain blockages, a number of high profile issues have demonstrated little progress over the past four years," said ALC Managing Director Michael Kilgariff.
Mr Kilgariff identified access to key intermodal facilities as an example of one area where "more needs to be done."
He said the report was designed to stimulate policy debate among industry and government to achieve a more efficient freight future
