Shipping Reforms Set For July 1 Introduction

The package of bills, which has been welcomed by union leaders and the government, has received some criticism and ambivalence from some industry members, including shipowners and line operators.

Royal assent is the final stage of turning a bill into a law in Australia. When the Governor General, as the Queen’s representative, signs the bills on June 22, they will become law.

That means they will begin to take effect from July onwards, as per the schedule set out in the bills.
