Licence Condition Changes For Customs Brokers

A notice from the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service said there were also plans to introduce a mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program for licensed customs brokers.

National manager for compliance assurance Anthony Seebach said he is imposing several new conditions on all customs broker licences.

“This includes all existing licences renewed with effect from July 1, 2012 and all new licences issued on or after July 1, 2012,” Mr Seebach wrote in a letter to brokers.

“I am imposing these conditions as I am satisfied that they are necessary and desirable for the protection of the revenue or ensuring compliance with the Customs Acts.”

Some of the new changes include integrity checks for licence holders and conditions that Customs and Border Protection systems not be used for unauthorised purposes.

“We expect that all future customs broker licences will include a CPD (continuing professional development) obligation,” he said.

“However, the detail of that obligation may change over time.

"We will review the scheme before the end of the 2012-2015 triennium.”
