The Korean Ministry of Construction & Transportation had recently heightened the enforcement of container weight restrictions on shipments moving on roads in Korea.
The maximum weight permitted for a container including tare and cargo weight is 21 kilo tons per 20' container and 25 kilo tons per 40' / 45' container. This is applicable to all container types including refrigerated containers. The restriction also disallows carriers to obtain permits to move overweight containers on the road. Any inaccurate declaration of weight information may result in penalty.
The recommended maximum cargo weight guidelines measured in kilogram tons are as follows:
20’ Dry/Heavy Duty – Cargo Weight – 19KT – Est. Tare Weight 2.2 KT
40’ Dry/Standard/HC/Reefer – Cargo Weight – 23KT – Est. Tare Weight 3.7 KT
Please provide our customer service representative the accurate cargo weight of your shipment when placing a booking.
In the event the gross weight of a container exceeds local restrictions, the consignee will be notified. The carrier reserves the right to terminate the Bill of Lading at the terminal and consignee will be responsible for arranging cargoes to be delivered to the final destination.
