February Box Trade Marginally Down At Botany

Overall volumes were affected by the early Chinese New Year, Sydney Port Corporation said in a statement.

Total box trade with Asia through Sydney’s Ports represented almost 62% of the total volume reported in 2010/11.

Full containerised exports reached almost 33,930 TEUs in February 2012, down 5.7% on the same period last year.

Full containerised imports for February 2012 reached almost 68,990 TEUs, down 2,7% on February 2011.

Leading the box exports for February were cereals, chemicals, machinery and transport equipment, which represented over 33% of total full exports.

Key import commodities for February 2012 were miscellaneous manufactures, machinery & transport equipment and chemicals, which represented over 56 per cent of total full containerised imports.
