Box Volumes Increase Between Australia And Europe

Container exports to Europe from Australia rose 6.1% to 218,600 teu from 206,000 teu a year earlier and 230,000 teu in March, CTS said.

Volumes on this route have risen every month since December 2011 with March posting the biggest gain of 12%.

Meanwhile, box imports to Australia from Europe increased 1.4% in April to 190,200 teu from 187,500 teu in the previous corresponding period, taking total volumes so far this year to 723,500 teu.

April’s year-on-year increase for imports to Australia from Europe comes after a 0.2% dip in March, a 7.4% rise in February and a 17% surge in January.

Global trade volumes in April dropped 5.4% from March although year-on-year they were up 4.1%.

Of this, total exports from Asia to Europe fell 3%.

However, they were up 4.8% on a year ago.
