Auckland Dispute Heads To The Courts

Representatives of both parties have confirmed a hearing is set for the New Zealand Employment Court, starting on March 26.

According to MUNZ, an injunction was filed in the Employment Court today aimed at halting PoA’s proposed dismissal of nearly 300 workers as part of bringing free enterprise to the waterfront.

MUNZ president Garry Parsloe said until this case is heard, it is important the company did not push ahead with plans to dismiss workers.

“We have nearly 300 workers whose job security is at risk, from a flawed model of contracting out...,” he said.

“We will continue to challenge this dismissal.”

Mr Parsloe said MUNZ was committed to completing bargaining with PoA and getting the port working again.

A spokesperson for PoA said they had been expecting MUNZ to take legal action.
