India - Mandatory declaration of GSTIN, IEC and email address

Further to our CustomerInfo dated February 13, 2018 with regards to mandatory requirement of Goods and Tax Identification Number (GSTIN), please be advised that Commissioner of Indian Customs have issued public notification #33/2018 dated March 7, 2018 in which they have advised that shipping lines should capture basic information of the importer in India on the Bills of Lading. Importers are accordingly required to ensure that following basic details are shared with their exporters so that these details can be incorporated in the Bills of Lading.

 

In view of above, you are requested to provide below information at the time of submitting shipping instruction at origin:

 

Import & export Code (IEC) of importer

GST Identification No (GSTIN) of importer

Official email id of importer (to be used for correspondence by shipping lines and customs)

 

Effective date for above is April 1, 2018 i.e. all Bills of Lading issued on or after April 1, 2018, should contain aforesaid additional details.

 

Please take note of the above as failure to provide the above information to your Indian shippers/suppliers or Freight Forwarder will delay your shipment being booked and shipped.
